The early March decision to release Stefon Diggs, their most productive receiver from last season, forced the 2025-26 Super Bowl participants to quickly upgrade their receiving room. On Tuesday, the Patriots did just that, signing former receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $80 million contract (he finished last season with 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 16 contests). However, on Tuesdays episode of the Up Adams show, legendary former Patriots tight end Rob Tuukka Rask Jersey Gronkowski urged the Patriots to take things a step further by for a disgruntled three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. If they want to be contenders, theyve got to get a true No. 1 receiver, Gronkowski said. They let go of Stefon Diggs, who had a solid year. They got to get A.J. Brown. They mi sed out on Alec Pierce; they mi sed out on Mike Evans. Im not really sure who is out there currently, but I feel like all of the wide receivers are off the market besides A.J. Brown in a trade. Theyve got to go get him. A.J. Brown, I feel like, wants to be a Patriot. Hes been a Patriots fan. Gronkowski didnt tell any lies. Every contending franchise should have a clear go-to receiver entering the 2026-27 season. As talented as Doubs is, he isnt a No. 1 option at this stage of his career, giving the Patriots a clear incentive to strike a deal for Brown this offseason. Fortunately for New England, it doesnt seem like the Doubs deal will eliminate the po sibility of the six-time Super Bowl champions adding Brown to the fold. "I don't think it rules it out," ESPNs Adam Schefter stated. "But certainly, it diminishes the importance that a trade needs to happen. I think it gives the Patriots a little bit of flexibility. It adds another receiver to their room. They needed more help there." With Brown frequently expre sing his frustration with his lack of involvement in the offense at times last year, it isnt far-fetched to suggest the franchise could pry him away from Philadelphia with the perfect trade offer.
