Drake Maye was just five years old when Matthew Stafford was drafted No. 1 overall by the in 2008, but their two paths are converging in the 2025 NFL MVP race. Maye has a higher completion percentage, finished well beyond 4,000 yards and posted a better pa ser rating. Maye is also led the Patriots to an AFC East title with le s offensive talent around him, while the Rams came up short in the NFC West. Both players are also tied with eight interceptions. On the ground, Stafford was a non-factor at his age, with one rushing yard this season. Maye isn't nece sarily known as a dual-threat quarterback, but he has four touchdowns and more than 450 yards on the ground. A 46:8 touchdown-to-interception ratio is nothing to scoff at. Stafford's ability to get the ball to the end zone and take care of the ball culminated in a streak of 28 consecutive touchdown pa ses without an interception this season, and it could still give him his first MVP award. Maye wasn't immune to mistakes as a rookie, doing plenty of losing in a le s than ideal situation, but the Patriots surrounded him with better pieces in 2025 and have seen him blo som.
